BEACHES
You may not realize that just a short drive from the Villa are some of Florida’s - and the USA’s - best beaches. Orlando’s closest beaches are located on Florida’s Atlantic coast – there is the famed Daytona Beach and the nearby Space Coast beaches. The water is warm and the average daytime temperature is a balmy 73° F (that's almost 23° C)! You and your family/friends have a wide choice of beaches, whether you just want to relax in the Florida sunshine, have a picnic, go surfing, go fishing, have a romantic stroll, or just have fun! Some of the beaches are detailed below.
Florida's Space Coast offers some great surfing and has clean, un-crowded beaches. Small beach towns dot the Space Coast south of Cocoa Beach along State Road A1A and public beach access and parks are plentiful. Most have seasonal lifeguards (so you can relax in the knowledge that your family is safe), covered picnic areas, restrooms and showers. Some also offer children’s play areas and beach volleyball nets so you can have fun with the kids.
Daytona Beach boasts 23 miles (37 kilometres) of sandy beach that is up to 500 feet (152 meters) wide at low tide. The gentle slope and tides have packed the hard, white sands nearest the ocean, enabling you to drive and park your car along 11 miles (18 kilometres) of the beach during the day, when the tide permits. Beach driving is a tradition in Daytona Beach with a rich history dating back to the turn of the 20th century. In fact, the world Land Speed Record was set 15 times on the shores of Daytona Beach.

Ron Jon Surf Shop on Cocoa Beach is now a world famous attraction in itself and is visited by approximately 2 million people every year! Just go to Cocoa Beach and you can't miss their distinctive blue and yellow art deco palace. Ron Jon has everything a surfer might need including boards, surf gear, swim wear and surf clothes as well as souvenirs. Ron Jon is open 24/7, 365 days a year and if you're lucky you might bump into a surfing celebrity while your there! Ron Jon has free parking and if there is a Space Shuttle/rocket launch while you're in the area, Ron Jon's can be a good place to watch it from. |

Having got all your surf gear at Ron Jon Surf Shop, Ron Jon can also help you with your surfing. (Don't worry if you don't want to buy your own surf gear just yet - you can rent instead). Ron Jon Surf School (formerly Cocoa Beach Surf School) is one of the largest in Florida and offers professional instruction in private and group lessons to all levels of surfers.
So whether you are a complete novice or already have experience Ron Jon Surf School will be able to help. Owner/instructor Craig Carroll's past experience includes 40 years surfing in the Cocoa Beach area! He was a professional surfer from 1976-1984. Central Florida Surf School
The Central Florida Surf School is owned by Lou Maresca and Lisa Mead and it is one of the largest and oldest Florida Surf Schools. The Central Florida Surf School offers training to both beginners and those who already have experience but want to improve. Most of the beginners classes are held at the Fort Pierce Inlet State Recreation Area (which is a short drive from the Villa) due to the ideal conditions there for beginners. Once again equipment is provided. |
Aloha Surfing School
The Aloha Surfing School caters for every level and age from beginner to advanced surfer. Locations of the lessons vary, usually they are from Juno to Jupiter beach, however they will consider coming to you if the beach you are on is within a reasonable distance and the surf conditions there are favourable. Teaching is offered on a one to one basis or in groups and equipment is included. The Lead instructor Paul Vargas teaches with an international flair, having surfed breaks as far away as Australia and South Africa. |
